SPANISH FORT Joe N. Awalt, born January 2, 1940 in Montgomery, Alabama a resident of Spanish Fort and formerly of Eight Mile and Mobile, passed away at his home on January 12, 2011. He graduated from Vigor High School in 1960, served in the US Army and retired from Scott Paper Company after 35 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Elwanda Rhone Awalt; father and stepmother: Joe and Millie Awalt; stepfather: Tommie Pierce, Sr. and sister: Carolyn Palmer Carlisle. He is survived by his mother Katie Pierce of Eight Mile; daughters: Paige (Joey) Thornton and Jonda (Jerry) Kiper of Spanish Fort; sons: Doyle (Angie) Patrick of Theodore and Bill (Cathy) Awalt of Daphne; granddaughters: Lindsay Patrick Quijas of Mobile and Devin Thornton of Spanish Fort; grandsons: Christopher Thornton of Spanish Fort and Andy Patrick of Mobile; sisters: Helen Fairchild, Jean (Ray) Bryant and Eleene Pierce all of Mobile, Patricia (Dewey) Cunningham of Satsuma and Phyllis Darley of Semmes; brothers: Tommie (Wanda) Pierce and Rodney Pierce both of Mobile and Richard (Debbie) Pierce of Eight Mile; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 11:00 am -12 noon at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon from the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Ronnie Pierce. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
